Between 2002 and 2015  the History of Madrid Museum underwent a comprehensive renovation and museographic redevelopment led by Frade. The museum housed in the historic former Hospicio de San Fernando, stands as a key institution, preserving and exhibiting more than 60 000 objects. Its collection illustrates the evolution of Madrid from the 16th century to the modern era including paitings from Francisco de Goya and Lucas Jordán between others.

The project respected the original baroque structure of the building while adapting it to contemporary museum standards: improving accessibility, exhibition layouts and conservation conditions. The intervention included opening up the central courtyard as a key element of the visitor route, and constructing a new basement level to accommodate services without altering the historic roofline.
